Middlesex Bonsai Society is a long established Society to foster experience and interest in the art of Bonsai. It was formed in 1978 by Mr John Street with 12 members.
The Society has had various meeting venues in northwest London. The first meeting was held in the Windmill Hall in Ruislip, then the Lady Banks School and we now meet in the South Harrow Methodist Church Hall, South Harrow(see Home page for details). Members of the club have visited Japan, the traditional home of Bonsai, although the art originated in China. Members have also made visits to shows and exhibitions in Japan, China, Taiwan, Vietnam and many European countries.
We generally meet once a month on Saturdays, please check programme for dates and times.
At our normal monthly meetings we have a mixture of guest speakers, demonstrations, workshops either in-house or with guests, all designed to assist members to develop their trees and skills. Some speakers/demonstrators have sales tables when here so there is the opportunity to purchase trees and Bonsai tools and accessories.
We also hold an annual show in a local hall when members have the opportunity to display their trees. Members also regularly display trees at other club shows. In 2018 our entry won best club display in the Wessex Bonsai Society Annual Show. We also display and assist at the Heathrow Bonsai Show.
Annual membership costs £15 per person and there is a £3 per meeting charge - however attendance at your first meeting is free.
Members can also join the UK Bonsai Association free of charge. It is a national association founded to encourage the skills, knowledge and experience of Bonsai practitioners across the UK. It publishes a monthly Bulletin and has a very informative website (www.ukbonsaiassoc.org)
